Our calculator uses current Jamaica tax rates and thresholds as published by the Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ). We regularly update our calculations to reflect the latest tax laws and proposed changes from both JLP and PNP parties. However, actual payroll calculations may vary slightly due to specific employer deductions or special circumstances.
Both parties have proposed different PAYE tax structures. The JLP proposal typically focuses on raising the tax threshold, while the PNP proposal may include different rate adjustments. Our calculator shows both scenarios so you can see exactly how each party's plan would affect your take-home pay.
Currently, calculations are not saved between sessions. However, you can bookmark the page or write down your results. We're working on adding a feature to save calculation history for registered users.
Jamaica Tax System
PAYE (Pay As You Earn) is income tax deducted from your salary before you receive it. It's calculated using progressive tax brackets - you pay different rates on different portions of your income. The first portion is tax-free (the threshold), then higher portions are taxed at increasing rates of 25% and 30%.
NHT (National Housing Trust): 2% of your gross salary NIS (National Insurance Scheme): 3% of your gross salary up to the annual ceiling
These contributions are mandatory for all employed persons in Jamaica and provide you with access to various benefits including housing assistance and social security.
Education Tax is charged at 2.25% of your gross salary and helps fund Jamaica's education system. This tax is applied to your total gross income and is separate from PAYE calculations.
Yes, several important thresholds:
PAYE Threshold: Income below this amount is not taxed
NIS Ceiling: You only pay NIS on income up to this annual limit
Tax Brackets: Different income ranges are taxed at 25% and 30%
These thresholds are adjusted periodically and vary between political party proposals.
